HOMEPAGE PART 3

Update about the crisis of leadership at the City of Vallejo City Manager’s office regarding the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve and what you can do!

It’s been 22 months since our non-profit organization, the Mare Island Heritage Trust was dismissed and expelled as day-to-day managers of the Mare Island Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve, which we founded and funded through your donations, with NO money from the City of Vallejo. This action, by what we are understanding more everyday, that of a rogue City Manager, continues to be mind-boggling, unprecedented and part of a much larger bizarre twist of events affecting department and programming throughout the whole City. The GOOD NEWS is that that destructive force has been terminated.

However, this has been a huge challenge in terms of bringing our Osprey Days to you in the last two years. We have no visitor center, so we are going to make-do with some canopies and chairs set up underneath, at the entrance gate. The temperatures are expected to be the usual early summer warm and we just aren’t clear how else to host you this next year. Another fall-out of this action towards us without cause, by the City, is that once again, we were not able to visit the Historic Southshore nest sites located on Navy property. Why? You guessed it! The City refuses to request access from the Navy or ensure City staff support for our access.

Sign and Share Our Online Petition

Please, if you would, visit our website for the Preserve, www.mareislandpreserve.com to learn about this upheaval and what you can do, including signing and sharing our petition to restore us as skilled and gentle land trust managers of the Preserve and donating to our nonprofit organization. (Please DO NOT make a donation on the petition site, Changedotorg, as none of those funds go to us!) Scroll to the bottom of this page for information on sending a check, or making a direct online Square or Paypal donation. The good news is that more than 8,300 Preserve Users and lovers like you, have already signed our online petition, in addition to the 1,000 signers on paper before COVID. We ARE letting our elected City Council know we want things to change!!
